Hey, I'm Liyi

I am a freshmen at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities studying computer science. I have a passion for science, technology, and engineering.

The first time I interacted with a computer was at the age of six, when my brother showed me how to use it and how to play games. From using it to improve my "broken" English to coding my own programs, I used a computer every day since. It has brought me through so many up and downs in my life and I've began to develop a passion for it.

In high school, I noticed the lack of opportunities for those who are interested in technology and took that matter into my own hands. With my passion for computers, I managed to aquire 16 more advanced computer, allowing students to do more activities on them. As a result, our school now offers classes like web page development and video game development. I continue to pursue my passion by studying computer science with a focus on software development. I am also dedicated to advancing women in science and technology because throughout my journey, I realized how underrepresented women is in STEM. I joined WISE because they promote STEM education for girls, and I plan to actively participate in this program to encourage more young women to pursue careers in STEM because I believe that diversity and inclusion is important for new innovations and progress.
